George Linde is the Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling performance even after ending on the losing side. He says that he is disappointed with the loss and feels he doesn't the award and maybe a bowler from the opposition should have won it. Adds that he just tried to keep it simple and had a chat before the game with the bowling coach and tried to execute the plans. Mentions that they have got match-winners in the squad and are disappointed but believe they can get to the playoffs.
Keshav Maharaj, the skipper of Durban's Super Giants says that it was a tricky game but applauds the batters for getting them to a good total and then the bowlers got the job done. Adds that the execution with the ball was lacking a bit in the last game but they were more clinical here and they had to be as batting was going to be tough. Adds that Matthew Breetzke played well and he could have easily got out playing a bad shot but held on and even Wiaan Mulder played a big role. On Noor Ahmad, he says that he is a great lad who always wants to keep learning. Ends by saying that he is happy to get the bonus point
The captain of MI Cape Town, Kieron Pollard says that the last two losses have been painful but doesn't want to put it down to the pitches and rather the players in the middle order, including himself, need to take more responsibility. Adds that they had the opportunity to do more with the ball and could have done things differently but had the opposition under control for most of the game. Mentions that the openers have been doing the job for them consistently and the middle order needs to step up. Ends by saying that the way George Linde was a big positive and they could have been a bit sharper with the ball in the last couple of overs and they need to buck up going into the business end.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier in the game, Kieron Pollard won the toss and put Durban's Super Giants into bat on a tricky pitch. MI Cape Town got a couple of early wickets before Matthew Breetzke and JJ Smuts were able to build a stand and after that Durban's Super Giants faltered a bit and were reeling at 94/5 in the 15th over. Breetzke powered through somehow and got a few boundaries away but it was Wiaan Mulder who played the game-changing cameo at the death and got his side to over the 150-run mark which was crucial. Kieron Pollard missed a trick by not bowling more of the slower bowlers as he and Liam Livingstone didn't even bowl one over. The pacers went for plenty at the end after having the opposition on the ropes and lost half the game there. Coming to the chase, Durban's Super Giants had clear plans and their bowlers executed them to the tee to notch up a win.
MI Cape Town have been well beaten and they certainly missed a trick or two first with the ball and then while chasing as well. On a wicket where the batter needed to spend some time before looking for the big shots, they played far too many shots and couldn't get going. Ryan Rickelton faltered early and then Rassie van der Dussen too fell. They were three down and in a spot of bother when Sam Curran and Dewald Brevis stitched together a stand. Curran looked at ease and hit a few big sixes but didn't manage to hold on for too long. Soon, Brevis started losing partners and had to try and hit his way out of trouble but he too perished. After that, it was just a bridge too far for the tailenders.
Durban's Super Giants get back to winning ways with a resounding victory over MI Cape Town who suffer back-to-back losses now and let the Super Giants have the bonus point as well by not getting over the 125-run mark. 158 was always going to be difficult to get on this track and the Super Giants bowled really well at the start to make things even more tough for the opposition. The spinners came into play early with Keshav Maharaj doing a fine job and then Noor Ahmad came in and got wickets at the right time. Marcus Stoinis was also used to perfection and his variations worked really well on this pitch as Naveen-ul-Haq too bowled pretty economically. All in all, a well-rounded display from the bowling contest and in the field as well.
