India Women beat Barbados Women by 100 runs
Right then! That is all we have from this one-sided match. Australia Women and India Women are the two teams from Group A that have progressed to the next round. We now move our attention to Group B where South Africa Women will take on Sri Lanka Women in the first game on Thursday, 4th of August. The action for that game is set to begin at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT). In the second game of the day, we have New Zealand Women up against England Women. The winner of that game will meet India Women in the semi-final while the team on the losing side will be up against Australia Women in the other semi-final game. The important clash between New Zealand Women and England Women is scheduled to begin at 10.30 pm IST (5.00 pm GMT). But do join us early for the build-up. Till then, cheers and goodbye.
Earlier, Barbados Women won the crucial toss and put India Women to bat first. They started off well with the ball by getting rid of Smriti Mandhana but they let them get away with crucial partnerships which took the game away from them. Shafali Verma's 43 and Jemimah Rodrigues' half-ton were the two stand-out performances from the Indian side. Not to forget the important cameo from Deepti Sharma. Her knock helped India Women get over the 160-mark.
India Women got off to a perfect start when Renuka Singh got rid of the dangerous Deandra Dottin in the very first over. She never looked back after that and went on to demolish the top order of Barbados Women. She ended her spell with outstanding figures of 4 for 10 in her 4 overs. Harmanpreet Kaur used 8 bowlers and 5 of them ended up with wickets. They never gave any chance to Barbados Women batters to settle in and build partnerships. They will be really happy with their performance and to do this in a do-or-die game, speaks a lot about their squad.
It's been another abysmal batting performance from Barbados Women. They did have a big target to chase in front of them, but they came out to bat with no intent. Deandra Dottin was sent back to the hut in the first over itself. Hayley Matthews did play a few fine strokes but she followed her partner back as well. Wickets continued to tumble and Barbados Women found themselves reeling at 20 for 4 at the end of the Powerplay! Alisa Scantlebury and Trishan Holder did hang in there, but they too perished soon. Only two of their players scored over 10 runs. Well, that tells you the kind of batting show they put up. A tough day in the office for Barbados Women!
A loud cheer in Edgbaston as India Women clinch this game in style and secure a spot in the semi-final! It's been another dominating performance from the Women in Blue and they continue to march on, while the expedition for Barbados Women ends here. It's been a tough competition for them!
