Team India has won the series on Wednesday. Their bowlers helped them to get out of jail. The bowlers stood out for India in the first two matches. They had answered the questions which were raised in the ODI series whitewash against South Africa. The pacers struck early in the innings and the spinners got the vital wickets in the middle overs.
Prasidh Krishna and Yuzvendra Chahal have been brilliant for the home side while Mohammad Siraj, Washington Sundar, and Shardul Thakur have done well in this series so far.
India is without its key players like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja. But the future stars of team India have stood up in the absence of their International stars. The credit certainly goes to the Indian Premier League (IPL) for making the younger players match-ready. But India has a concern over their batting ahead of the last ODI and the three-match T20I series which will be followed from the next week.
Many cricket experts did not like the experiment of opening with Rishabh Pant. KL Rahul was included in the side despite that, India decided it to open the innings with Pant. That was termed as ridiculous. KL Rahul is India’s premiere opening batter in all three formats. He is playing in the middle order to give the team a much-needed balance to India’s ODI side.
India can rest Rishabh Pant for the dead rubber game and let Ishan Kishan play as Rohit Sharma’s partner and the wicketkeeper. Pant has been playing continuously since the South Africa tour and India needs him fresh for the three-match series of the shortest format against the two-time T20 champions West Indies.
Suryakumar Yadav too looked in good touch in the first two ODIs. But the form of the former captain Virat Kohli is a worry for the hosts. Kohli hasn’t looked like the man who used to score hundreds for fun. After quitting the captaincy, Kohli looked ordinary in this series. He scored two good half-centuries in South Africa earlier this series.
India can also take a call on resting Virat Kohli for this final ODI match. Shreyas Iyer who was Corona Virus positive is now available for the last fixture. He can replace Kohli or India can also go with the hard-hitting all-rounder Shahrukh Khan. The dasher from Tamil Nadu can also give four to five overs and he can give the lusty blows towards the end of an innings.
West Indies bowlers did well with the ball in both the ODU matches. But they were equally disappointing with the bat in this series so far. They had a decent start while chasing a modest ODI score in the last game and many batsmen from the Windies team got starts. But they didn’t convert them into a substantial score. West Indies batter needs to complement the good work done by the bowlers.
Shai Hope, Kieron Pollard, and Brandon King need to deliver and gain confidence for the upcoming T20I series which begins on 16th February 2022 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The lower order batters Jason Holder and Odean Smith and Fabian Allen did a decent job till now with the bat despite the top order haven’t fired for them.
West Indies can drop Nicholas Pooran and Kemar Roach from the last ODI match and they can include Evin Lewis as the opener or they might also bring in Nrumah Booner who is an all-rounder. Booner and Pollard can bat in the middle order while Romario Shepard can replace Kemar Roach in the playing XI.

India Vs West Indies 3rd ODI Match – Fantasy Batsmen
Rohit Sharma – The Mumbai Indians and India skipper Hit Man looked good in the first ODI. He smashed quickfire 60 runs and set the run chase for India. With the poor form of the middle-order batters, Rohit is expected to deliver in the final match of the series and set the T20I series on fire. Rohit started the series with a good half-century and now he should aim to finish the fifty overs series with a big ton.
Jason holder – The former West Indian skipper has had a good ODI series. But he should be promoted up the order because he has the bulk of experience in this format. He can be the guiding light for the visitors and he can also guide someone like Booner to play a gem of an innings. Holder can be the player to watch out for in the final ODI and T20I series.
India Vs West Indies 3rd ODI Match – Fantasy Bowlers
Alzarri Joseph – The West Indian pace bowler has done a good job in the first two matches. Joseph will again be the key bowler to watch out from the West Indies in the final match. If the visitors want a consolation win, then Alzarri needs to fire for them and keep picking up the wickets for West Indies. If he picks up the top order. Then the Indian middle order will be collapsed automatically.
Yuzvendra Chahal – The pitch at Ahmedabad supports the spinners and that is why Yuzvi has bowled extremely well. He had a flop show in South Africa, where the pitches are considered as the graveyard for the spin bowlers. But in India, he is back amongst the wickets. He has dented the West Indian batting line up and he has picked up the most wickets in this series. Chahal has also got good support from Washington Sundar as well which was missing from Ravi Ashwin in South Africa.
