The current ICC Chair Greg Barclay has been requested by the members to complete his two-year term, which will end in December.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) will be conducting the elections for the new Chairman in December. It was previously decided that the election will be held in May-June this year, but after a series of meetings that were held in Dubai this week, the election has been postponed.
BCCI is likely to pitch Anurag Thakur’s name for the role
This postponement works in favor of the BCCI, as the board was keen on fielding one of their top candidates for the position. Things will be much clearer in October, as there will be clarity on who will continue to bear their position at the BCCI.
It was also reported that the BCCI might pitch for former president Anurag Thakur for the role. He has also been the director of the ICC in the past. The members of the BCCI feel that the final decision should come in India’s favor as the 2023 World Cup is set to be hosted by the country.
