Ramiz Raja took over as PCB Chairman in September last year.
Amidst all the political changes in the Pakistan Government, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairperson Ramiz Raja has decided not to quit his role. It was earlier reported that Ramiz would step down from his role at the PCB because of Imran Khan’s removal as the Prime Minister. It was said that with a new political party being formed, there would be changes at the PCB, and Najam Sethi would replace Ramiz.
Meanwhile,Najam Sethi is reportedly the favorite candidate to replace Raja, due to his political ties with the current PM. Sethi has previously been in this role, and he was one of the reasons behind the introduction of the Pakistan Super League. The sport took a leap under Sethi’s rule.
When no countries visited Pakistan for international tours, former PCB Chiefs Mani and Wasim Akram made it possible and worked things out. The domestic circuit was also refurbished under their power before Ramiz had stepped in. Ramiz, though, has been an influential figure at the PCB lately. He made the Australian tour of Pakistan possible after 23 long years, as the series turned out to be historic.
In the upcoming cycle, England, New Zealand and West Indies will be touring Pakistan for their respective fixtures. After Ramiz Raja took charge, Pakistan cricket saw a huge leap forward, with Babar Azam leading the side to some iconic victories. Since Babar’s arrival, Pakistan registered their first-ever victory against India at the World Cup. The team also reached the semi-finals of the World Cup last year without losing a single match in the league stage.
