Right then. That’s it from the coverage of this game. For now, India has moved to the top of the table courtesy of a better NRR. Although they have played an extra game. While, West Indies lose a foot in the table. The action of the Women’s World Cup, 2022 will continue on 13th March. It will be a contest between New Zealand Women and Australia Women. The first ball will be at 3.30 am IST (10 pm GMT, previous day). See you then. Cheers!
Mithali Raj, the victorious skipper, says she is very happy and she could not have asked for anything better. Mentions batting and bowling came out very well. Adds they needed to step up and a special effort was needed and the team delivered. Also says the plans need to be changed in a tournament if the original plan does not work and Kaur and Mandhana played well and the bowlers followed it up. Ends by saying it is good to have youngsters around as it eases out the nerves.
Stafanie Taylor, the skipper of West Indies Womenm is in for a chat. She says she does not feel they bowled well and they did not execute their plans well. Mentions Kaur and Mandhana batted well and they put them under pressure. States the start they got was very good but it was important for one of them to stay there and the others to come and do well but the batters who came in did not capitalise. Ends by saying Dottin is doing well.
What a gesture by Smriti Mandhana! She has decided to share the player of the match trophy with Harmanpreet Kaur. The former says both contributed and it was pleasing to score a ton and they both deserve the award. Kaur says in the last game there was no one to support her but in this game Mandhana was there, they started off slowly but gathered pace as the game went on. Mandhana says they prefer both, chasing or setting the target, they did not get going in the last game and played with a lot more intent in this one. Kaur also says left-right combination is a good thing. Mandhana says she was comfortable on facing pace and Kaur was comfortable in facing the spinners.
Stay tuned for presentation...
Spin it to win it was the formula that India applied! The Indian bowling took a real pounding early on but once they got the wicket of Dottin there was no stopping their bowlers. Except for Sharma, all took a wicket at least. Rana was the pick with three and Rajeshwari was also really good. Overall, it was a clinical show from the Indians.
In reply however, Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin began brilliantly. The two added 100 in no time with Dottin scoring a half ton. Once she fell though it was a procession. There was hardly any contribution from the middle and the lower order and in the end they have fallen well, well short.
A thumping win for India and they have handed the Windies their first loss of the tournament. To be honest, it was the innings from Mandhana and Kaur which sealed the deal for them. Tons from the two took India over 300.
