That is it! The trophy has been handed over to Shai Hope who joins his teammates now. West Indies take home the ODI series. It is time for the T20I series to kick off. Join us on the 13th of this month at 3.30 am IST (10 pm GMT, the previous day) for the action. Cheers!
Shai Hope wins the Player of the Series award. He says he just wants to win. Tells it is important to stick to the basics. It was great to see so many players chip in and it was great to see such performances from the players. On Forde, it reminds him of is debut and feels, he has a bright future ahead of him. Reckons it is exciting to play the T20I series and is looking forward to the series.
Jos Buttler says they were short with the bat, there was a good stand between Liam Livingstone and Ben Duckett but were short enough. Adds there didn't build much partnership. Reckons it was a good effort with the ball, they could have had more runs though. Tells it is a long journey in this format and a lot of them have tasted the ODI format for the first time.
Matthew Forde wins the Player of the Match award. He says they are training very hard and it is a dream come true to win the first series. Forde is lost of words as he describes more about the series but says it is heart-warming. Reckons the wicket was tacky so he was just trying to be consistent. Mentions he just tried to support Romario Shepherd with the bat.
...Presentation time...
West Indies bowled to the plans. The debutant, Forde was like a new machine gun with the way he bowled. He ended with three wickets while the spinners controlled the further phases to keep England under par score. While chasing, Alick Athanaze and Keacy Carty batted brilliantly to give a perfect start. West Indies too lost a couple of wickets but Romario Shepherd showed why he is so highly rated in the ODI format. A new age West Indies have beaten down the wounded England team to add more darkness around their situation. West Indies seal the series 2-1.
Jos Buttler has more questions to answer now. The former defending champions came in after a horrible World Cup, a lot of new faces bringing fresh air but only to take nothing away from the West Indies shores. The pitch wasn't easy to bat on and while batting first, they were toppled five down inside the 10 overs. However, the stand of Ben Duckett and Liam Livingstone blossomed well to get England to a decent score. The tail too added some crucial runs to get the score above 200.
Finally, somehow after so many delays, we have our winner and it is the home team who takes the series. Both teams had new faces and a bit of rebuilding from both sides but it is West Indies who showed more courage and determination to put on the foundation stone and take the series home.
