Right then, that’s it from this one-sided contest but the action continues in the SA20, 2024. The MI Cape Town will host the Durban’s Super Giants at Newlands in Cape Town tomorrow (23rd January). That game will start at 9.00 pm IST (3.30 pm GMT). But as you know, you can always join in early for the build-up. Until then, goodbye and cheers!
Ottniel Baartman is the Man of the Match for his fine spell. He says that opening bowlers set the tone and made his job easier. Adds that they need to use different skills for different pitches and adapting to that holds the key for them. Closes by sharing that he is extremely happy with the win.
Aiden Markram, the Sunrisers' Eastern Cape skipper shares that he did not expect a game like that but will take the win with open arms. Adds that they did bowl nicely and things went well for them. Closes by saying that he is happy to have three wins on the bounce and they march ahead in the tournament.
Wayne Parnell, the Pretoria Capitals skipper says that losing wickets in the powerplay never helps and they lost 9 for 20 today. Adds that the ball was doing enough, laterally and bounce-wise, and lauds the Sunrisers bowling lineup. Shares that he and Kyle Verreynne spoke during the first time-out about getting to over 100 but it wasn’t meant to be. Ends by saying that they need to regroup and forget this game going forward.
Time for the post-match presentations...
Earlier, the Capitals were bowled out for 52, the lowest total in the tournament's history. The pitch was difficult to bat on, with some balls staying low and holding up. The Sunrisers' bowlers, particularly Daniel Worrall and Ottniel Baartman, put in a clinical performance to restrict the Capitals. Worrall took three wickets in the powerplay, while Baartman excelled in the middle order, ending with figures of 4/12. Marco Jansen also contributed with 2 wickets. The Sunrisers Eastern Cape get their third win of the season and have boasted their net run rate immensely.
Pretoria Capitals will be concerned with this disappointing performance. Coming into this inning, their bowlers just had 53 runs on the board. It was nearly impossible to pull off a victory from there. Wayne Parnell managed to pick the wicket of Dawid Malan in the second over and that was it. No other bowler could provide the breakthrough as Sunrisers Eastern Cape cruised through in the chase.
A convincing win for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape who have defeated the Pretoria Capitals by a thumping margin of 9 wickets and with more than 13 overs to spare. Chasing a smallish score of 53 for the win, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape lost Malan early but Abell and Hermann ensured no more hiccups, and the game was won with ease. Sunrisers Eastern Cape have outplayed the Pretoria Capitals in all departments and they move up to number two in the table, surpassing Durban's Super Giants.

FOUR! THAT WILL BE IT! Jordan Hermann seals the deal with the boundary. This was on a length and just outside off. Hermann looks to drive it off the backfoot but gets a thickish edge towards the deep point region and the ball runs away to the fence. Sunrisers Eastern Cape win this game inside seven overs and by a huge margin of 9 wickets. They get a bonus point and their net run rate will hugely improve with this win.
