Right then, the first game is done and it is Australia Women who have come out on top once again and have remained unbeaten. In the next game of the day, India Women take on Barbados Women. The winner of that game will be the second team to progress to the semi-final from Group A. The action for that match is set to begin at 10.30 pm IST (5.00 pm GMT). Our build-up though will begin much sooner. See you then. Cheers!
Earlier, Australia Women won the toss and elected to bat first. They struggled to get going and as a result, put 22 runs on the board and lost two wickets. They scored their lowest total in the Powerplay over the last 18 games. This was probably the only time, that Pakistan Women were in the game. However, Beth Mooney and Tahlia McGrath had other ideas, as they steadied the ship and then began an onslaught towards the end. They achieved the record third-wicket partnership for Australia Women in the process and took the game completely away from Pakistan Women.
The Australian juggernaut continues to bulldoze its way into the knockout stages. After securing their place for the semi-finals in the last game, they have now put themselves in pole position in the group. Another complete performance by the whole team, with the bowlers being accurate and never letting their opponents with a whiff of an opportunity. They bowled tight lines and Tahlia McGrath was the pick of the bowlers claiming three wickets for 13 runs in the three overs that she bowled. The bowlers had an easy task as the games had already been set up by the batters.
Pakistan Women had their task cut out and things just got worse as they lost Muneeba Ali with no runs on the board. The skipper Bismah Maroof, never really got going as she kept accumulating runs with no real intent. Omaima Sohail and Fatima Sana played a cameo but at no point did it seem that they could set up a run chase. Fatima Sana was probably the only one who took the attack to the champions and ended her innings unbeaten on 35. This has been a consistent issue for this team as they have been unable to score freely at the international level. Their journey in the Commonwealth Games comes to end and they will have to rework their plans for the future.
Just as we expected the target was way out of reach for Pakistan Women. They have fallen short by 44 runs and Australia Women clinch the top spot in Group A. Pakistan Women will exit the tournament with no wins under their belt. This has been another commanding performance by the ladies from Down Under!
