Right then, that is it from this contest and Oval Invincibles have done the double over London Spirit, beating them home and away and grabbing bragging rights in the London Derby. Given it is a doubleheader day in The Hundred, cricketing action isn't over and right now, Manchester Originals Women are going up against Northern Superchargers Women and you can simply switch tabs to catch the run chase with the game evenly poised. The Men will then follow the Women with that match beginning at 10.30 pm IST (5 pm GMT) but you can join us sooner for the build-up. Cheers!
Adam Zampa is the Hero of the Match for his four-fer. He says that the opposition succeded in keeping them under pressure in the Powerplay but in the middle overs, they did really well. He states that he is happy that they are playing good cricket throughout the season and they just need to carry on the momentum. Ends up saying that the crowd was beautiful and the boys are really happy to win the London Derby.
The Presentation ceremony....
Earlier in the game, Sam Billings put London Spirit into bat and his bowlers backed up his decision. It wasn't a stellar Powerplay with the ball as the Spirit did get some runs on the board but soon enough, everything started to fall apart for the Spirit. Adam Zampa picked up four wickets and ran through the opposition's batting, moving on to 17 wickets and going clear at the top of the wicket-takers tally. Michael Pepper was the only one who did some damage for the Spirit while a couple of others managed to get into double digits. Apart from Zampa, the Curran brothers picked up five wickets in between them and helped the Invincibles bowl out the opposition for 96 runs. In reply, Oval Invincibles dominated proceedings and hardly broke a sweat in gunning down the target.
Not much to write home about London Spirit and they are just not having a season to remember at all. Things didn't work out well with the bat and then with the ball, they have been blown away. However, they did start well with the likes of Daniel Worrall and Olly Stone bowling tight lines, with the latter really hitting his stride and even picked up a wicket but that was as good as it got for them. The bowlers that came in after the Powerplay were treated to some Jordan Cox magic and they barely even created an opportunity to take a wicket.
Needing just 97 for the win, the Invincibles did start cautiously and weren't quite able to get off to a flier in the Powerplay. Will Jacks fell early but the new man, Jordan Cox came in with positive intent and helped inject some momentum towards the end of the Powerplay. The home side then simply bossed the play with Cox hitting boundaries for fun and Dawid Malan kept feeding him the strike, every now and then chancing his own arm as well. Cox finished things off in style and remained unbeaten on 61 off just 30 balls as the Invincibles made it four wins on the bounce.
Double delight for Oval Invincibles in the London Derby as the Men now follow the Women in routing the London Spirit at the Kennington Oval. The Men's side are now guaranteed a top-three finish and are in pole position for that automatic Final spot as well with one group-stage game remaining.
