England showed determination in the ongoing T20 World Cup as they secured a significant victory by bowling out Oman for just 47 runs in 13.2 overs and successfully chasing down the target in just 19 balls.
The Game Was Won Early On In The Powerplay
As England’s bowlers, Jofra Archer and Mark Wood made a strong start by taking a couple of wickets each. They left Oman struggling at 25/4. Adil Rashid then took over, taking four wickets to wrap up the lower order and secure victory for England.
Oman
Powerplay: Pacers Dominate
Phase score: 25/4 | After a quiet first over, Pratik Athavale charged Jofra Archer to hit a boundary, but Archer struck him out on the very next ball. Archer then took another wicket with a slower leg cutter that the batter guided straight to the gully. The pacer could have had a third wicket in the powerplay, but Moeen Ali dropped an easy chance. Oman’s hopes of getting through the powerplay without further damage took a huge hit when Mark Wood came into the attack. He took a wicket on his first ball as Zeeshan Maqsood got a leading edge. Wood’s pace was too much for Kashyap Prajapati, who played a shot with no timing, giving Wood his second wicket.
Middle Overs: The Adil Rashid Show
Phase score: 22/6 | If Oman thought they could relax after the initial burst, they were in for a rude shock. Adil Rashid got a wicket on his first ball when Khalid Kail was stumped. Wood then took another wicket, leaving Oman in a difficult position. From there, they simply couldn’t stage a comeback. Rashid kept it simple against the tailenders as he ran through the lineup before Archer ended the innings.
England
Event: Powerplay – Game. Set. Match
Phase score: 50/2 | The game ended incredibly quickly. England only needed 16.3 overs to secure victory, which is less than a full inning. Phil Salt capitalized on the opportunity by hitting two sixes off the first two balls of the run chase against Bilal Khan. Bilal managed to take his revenge off the third delivery, but England continued their momentum despite losing Will Jacks in the second over. Buttler wasted no time and smashed four boundaries and a six off Bilal, while Bairstow added another boundary to secure the win against Oman.
Brief scores:
Oman 47 in 13.2 overs (Adil Rashid 4/11, Jofra Archer 3/12)
England 50/2 in 3.1 overs (Jos Buttler 24*)
Result: England won by 8 wickets
What’s Next?
England’s victory over Scotland has put them in a strong position in terms of net run rate. If Australia defeats Scotland as expected, England will be in a good position to progress to the Super 8. However, an upset in that game could cost England a spot in the next round. Regardless, England’s focus will be on their final group game against Namibia.
