Karthik also felt that Babar Azam can turn the current fav four into fab five.
Senior Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has praised the Pakistan captain and batting sensation Babar Azam. He appreciated his batting excellence and also predicted him to be included in the elite list of batters who are like the axis around whom modern cricket revolves.
Babar has magnificently contributed to Pakistan both with his bat and captaincy as well, ever since he made his international debut. He has so far played 40 Tests, 86 ODIs, and 74 T20Is for his country scoring around 9800 runs across formats at the highest level. The 27-year-old also boasts of a brilliant average of 59.18 in the 50-over format to go with 46 and 45.5 in Tests and T20Is respectively.
He has been phenomenal in all three formats – Karthik
Coming back to Dinesh Karthik, he termed Babar Azam as a top-class player and also pointed out that he has done well at different batting positions for Pakistan. “One-hundred percent [he is capable of achieving that], He is a high-quality player who is at the peak of his batting prowess and he has got some Test matches coming up. He has been phenomenal in all three formats of the game and he has done well in different batting positions too.” Karthik was quoted as saying in the ICC review show.
To note, Babar Azam is ranked number one in both the T20 and ODI rankings of ICC. Apart from this, he is at number 5 in the latest ICC Test rankings. Karthik also felt that the current Pakistan captain can deliver special things for Pakistan cricket and also backed him to turn the current fab four into fab five with the batting potential he possesses.
“I wish him all the best and think he has the potential. He has got all the following of Pakistan helping him in abundance to go on and do special things for his country. It is a very strong ‘Fab Four’ that we are talking about and they have obviously been there for much longer, but there is no doubt that Babar has all the credentials and he is going to make it a ‘Fab Five’, There is no doubt he is there or thereabouts, he is a very special player,” Karthik added.
