The 2021 County Championship 2021 (referred to as the LV Insurance County Championship for sponsorship reasons) will be the 121st cricket County Championship season in England and Wales. For the first phase of the tournament, teams will be split into three groups of six, with each side playing ten matches. The top two teams from each group will then move into Division One for the second phase of the competition, with the other teams progressing to Divisions Two and Three. The team that finishes top of Division One will be the county champions; the top two teams from Division One will then contest a five-day match at Lord’s for the Bob Willis Trophy. On 17 December 2020, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed all the fixtures for the tournament.
The County Championship 2021 will reportedly have more overseas players taking part in the first-class cricket competition, with West Indies Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite (Gloucestershire) and pacers Alzarri Joseph (Worcestershire) and Kemar Roach (Surrey) set to play in the early part of the campaign.
Australian Test specialist Marnus Labsuchagne will return for Glamorgan while India’s Hanuma Vihari, who went unsold in the Indian T20 League auction, is set to link up with Warwickshire after their first-choice pick Pieter Malan couldn’t obtain a visa.
The 27-year-old Vihari will reportedly play three County Championship games but there is a possibility that he could feature in a few more.
