The Sunrisers Hyderabad speedster Umran Malik bowled the fastest delivery of IPL 2022 as he clocked one at 157 kmph against the Delhi Capitals on May 5 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. He delivered the ball in the final over of DC’s innings to Rovman Powell, who struck it for a boundary.
Earlier, Malik delivered a 154.8 kmph delivery to David Warner in the 12th over, thereby bettering his record twice in the same game. In the previous game against the Chennai Super Kings, he had clocked 154 kmph twice at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
The youngster had recently bagged his maiden five-wicket haul when SRH clashed against the Gujarat Titans. Though his team ended up on the losing side, his efforts were praised by the cricket veterans and decision-makers as he was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his 5/25.
Notably, Malik was the only bowler from the SRH unit who scalped wickets as all others went wicketless. His figures of 4-0-25-5, which are the best of IPL 2022 so far, helped his side dismiss the Titans’ top and middle-order batters during their chase of 196 runs.
SRH and DC eye an important win in the 50th game of IPL 2022
Talking about the match between SRH and DC, the former won the toss and elected to field first. While SRH had a dream start to the game when Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Mandeep Singh in the very first over, marking it as a wicket maiden, they could not hold things the same way from thereon.
David Warner stood strong against his former team, as his team crossed the 50-run mark in the powerplay at the loss of two wickets. After Singh, it was Marsh who had to walk back in the powerplay as the newcomer Sean Abbott scalped his first wicket of the day after being hit for three boundaries till then. Meanwhile, both the teams are coming off a loss, looking for a win to keep their hopes alive in the tournament.
