India gets a double blow even before the shortest format series against Sri Lanka starts. India Vs Sri Lanka 2022 will play the first T20I match tomorrow at Lucknow. But the home side has lost two of their key players of the T20I format, and these two players have done well for India in recent past matches.
Suryakumar Yadav to Miss the T20I series against the Lankans
Suryakumar Yadav played well against the West Indies in the recently concluded T20I series, which the home team won by a margin of 3-0. Surya won the player of the series award. The 31-year-old batsman has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against the Lankans due to a hairline fracture.
Surya was spotted in the practice session yesterday at Lucknow. But he got a blow on his hand, and that is why Surya cannot play the T20I series against Sri Lanka starting from tomorrow. It is still not clear how Suryakumar got this blow on his hand. We have learned that Surya got this hurt while fielding in the last T20I encounter against West Indies on Sunday, 20th February 2022, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Deepak Chahar also out of the T20I series against Sri Lanka
Another Indian player who is out of the series against Sri Lanka is the fast bowler, Deepak Chahar. He is ruled out of the games in Lucknow and Dharamshala because of the hamstring injury he picked up in Kolkata. Chahar couldn’t complete his quota of overs. He dismissed the West Indies openers early. But he left the field and never came back again.
Deepak Chahar also didn’t travel to Lucknow, where the first T20I between India Vs Sri Lanka 2022 will take place tomorrow. The Indian Board, BCCI, will not name the replacements of Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Chahar because the unit looks strong even without these two players. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja have made a comeback in the T20I side.
Boom Boom Bumrah will return from a break, and the ace pace bowler has also been named the deputy of Rohit Sharma for this series of the shortest format. Ravindra Jadeja will be back after suffering an injury during the Test match against New Zealand in Kanpur. Jaddu’s all-around skills will bolster the Indian team.
India has plenty of options in the pace bowling department like Mohammed Siraj, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in their current setup with the vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah.
In the absence of Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson might get an opportunity. But the Indian batting will be tested, especially the middle order, without Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant in this T20I series. The replacements of the players are not possible because of the Corona Virus threat and the biosecurity protocols. Currently, the Indian team has a squad of 16 members for this three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.
