Right then. That's it from the coverage of this game. These two will meet again on 20th August 2022 for their second match of this three-match ODI series. The first ball will be at 12.45 pm IST (7.15 am GMT) but you can join us early for the build-up. Till then, take care and goodbye!
KL Rahul, the victorious skipper is in for a chat. He says that he feels very happy. Adds that they play a lot of cricket and injuries are a part of the game. Mentions that picking up wickets was a crucial part of the game and the bowlers did really well. Says that being away from the game is very hard. Further adds that they would love to play 365 days than be with the physio. Ends by saying for a few of the players, it is great to be back in the dressing room after being out due to injuries.
Deepak Chahar wins the Man of the Match award for his exceptional spell with the new ball. He starts by saying that the landing area was a little hard and his nails weren't going in. Says that he has been out of the game for more than 6 months and hence was a little bit nervous. He adds that he played 5/6 practice games but playing for the country is something different and he wanted to do well. Adds that his mind and body were not working together initially.
Regis Chakabva, the captain of Zimbabwe says that the Indian bowlers bowled really well and put pressure on them by taking early wickets. Adds that it was good to see Ngarava and Evans give them good partnership. They needed a couple more big partnerships but were unable to get those. Says that the bowlers tried hard but Dhawan and Gill were just amazing. Finally says that they will keep their heads up and try to bounce back.
Stay tuned for the presentation...
Shikhar Dhawan is in for a quick chat. He says that he enjoyed batting with the youngster. Further says that he knew that he wanted to stand there and his rhythm with Gill was good as he is a great batter. Mentions that he enjoyed taking a couple of catches as well. Ends by saying that they have some great players and everyone played to their best.
Earlier in the innings, after being put to bat. Zimbabwe were unable to get off to a solid start as the Indian pacers ran riot with the new ball. They made the most of the swing on offer and took three wickets inside the Powerplay 1. Prasidh Krishna was also very clinical. Zimbabwe were in all sort of trouble, but Brad Evans and Richard Ngarava stitched a solid stand of 70 runs to add some impetus to their total. But eventually they could only post a below-par score as the got bundled out for 189. During the chase, Indian batters were hardly ever put under pressure and in the end it was a measured chase by Gill and Dhawan.
Zimbabwe would be very disappointed with their bowling effort. There was not much venom on the track for Zimbabwe seamers to work with. Richard Ngarava stood out with the ball for his economical spell. He started brightly with the ball, getting some movement here and there but found no success. With the sun beating the deck, it almost became a friendly pitch to bat on. Overall, the Zimbabwe attack looked a little bit toothless.
India record their 13th ODI win against Zimbabwe. This is their longest ever streak against a side in this format. This is also their third 10-wicket win against Zimbabwe. Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill took their time to settle down. Initially, it was Shikhar Dhawan who took control while Gill played the second fiddle, but once Gill found his rhythm, it was Dhawan who took the back seat. Both the batters remained unbeaten in their 80s and took their side over the victory line. It looks like these two batters are enjoying their role to open for the Indian side. This is their third 100-run opening stand in the last four matches.
A comprehensive win for India. They have taken an early lead in this three-match ODI series. Zimbabwe looked listless with the ball and would need to improve in their bowling department next time around.
